What is "350"?     350 refers to 350 parts per million of greenhouse gasses in the Earth's atmosphere. Scientists say that 350 is the maximum safe level to prevent climate change disasters. Human impacts have already raised CO2 levels to over 385 ppm. [learn more]    350.org is a global movement, calling for action by world leaders to reduce greenhouse gasses to a safe level. They are calling for a global day of action on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
Metropolitan Denver, Colorado, was a very active participant in the October day of action!

Dozens of different events were planned
by neighborhood groups, environmental organizations, religious communities, businesses and individuals.

The rally on the west steps of the Colorado State Capitol was the largest 350 event in Colorado.


350Denver is a coalition of community groups that encouraged widespread participation in the October day of action in the metropolitan Denver area. We encourage you to take continue in the spirit of this movement with ongoing action through the partner agencies of the coalition. [Read more about the 350Denver coalition.]

On Saturday, October 24, 2009, people gathered in communities around the world to call for strong global action to address global climate change. Over 5,000 actioons were held in 181 countries. As the movement coordinators from 350.org write in their invitation to join the movment:
We hope to have actions at hundreds of iconic places around the world - from the Taj Mahal to the Great Barrier Reef to your community - and send a clear message to world leaders: the solutions to climate change must be equitable, they must be grounded in science, and they must meet the scale of the crisis.

350Denver is mobilizing the Denver, Colorado, community so that the 350 movement will have a visible and powerful presence, with a wide variety of events and actions.
